Moz alternatives: what replaces each product (with UK data)

Author: Matteo Pellegrini

A Moz alternative is a tool that replaces the Moz product you actually use. That's the whole point: Moz isn't a single tool. Under the same brand there's Moz Pro (the suite for keywords, links and rankings), Domain Authority with its Link Explorer, the MozBar extension and Moz Local for local business listings. Each one has different replacements, with prices ranging from nothing to a few hundred dollars a month.

We checked the first page of Google UK for "moz alternatives" on 10 October 2026: of nine organic results, five were published by companies selling one of the alternatives (Answer Socrates, ChatSEO, Mangools, Morningscore and SiteGuru), and the first of them ranks itself as the best overall value. The AI Overview above them puts SE Ranking's entry price at "around $52 per month", while SE Ranking's own price list starts at $129. Below you'll find the alternatives sorted by product, the official price lists converted to pounds at the Bank of England rate, the UK databases each vendor declares and a figure we collected ourselves that changes the order of priorities: what people in the UK search for Moz for.

What people use Moz for in the UK: search volumes

Before choosing a replacement it's worth understanding what you're replacing. We pulled the monthly Google searches in the UK for Moz's products and the queries around them.

The ratio that matters is between the first row and the fifth. Searches for a tool to check Domain Authority are 32 times the searches for Moz Pro by name, and "moz da checker" alone gets another 880 a month. In the UK Moz is first of all a number from 0 to 100 that people ask for before buying a link or accepting a guest post, and only after that an SEO suite. Moz Local, at 140 searches a month with a peak of 260 in March 2026, is close to Moz Pro: local listings are a real part of the brand's demand here.

The practical consequence: if what you need from Moz is DA, the alternative costs little or nothing. If you need the suite, the comparison is with Ahrefs, Semrush and SE Ranking, and it's a comparison we've already made in detail between Ahrefs and Moz and between Semrush and Moz.

What Moz Pro costs today, in pounds

Moz started in Seattle in 2004 as SEOmoz, founded by Rand Fishkin and Gillian Muessig (Wikipedia), and in 2021 it was bought by iContact, a company in the J2 Global group (Search Engine Land). The Moz Pro price list is in dollars. We've taken it from the G2 pricing page, filled in by the vendor and updated on 30 April 2026, because moz.com's pricing page couldn't be reached by our checking tools.

The limit that bites hardest on the lower plans is the second number: on Standard you get 150 keyword queries a month. That's just about enough for full keyword research on a new site, and not enough for a consultant's daily work. It's the reason many people start looking for an alternative when the renewal comes round.

Alternatives to Domain Authority and the MozBar

Domain Authority is the 0 to 100 score Moz uses to estimate a domain's strength from the links it receives. It isn't a Google metric, and every tool has its own version calculated in a different way: that's why the same site can have very different values from one tool to another. We explain how to read it without being misled in our guide to Domain Authority.

Ahrefs' Domain Rating, at no cost

Ahrefs' Website Authority Checker returns the Domain Rating (DR) of any domain at no cost, and the page doesn't state any limit on the number of checks. The DR method is documented by Tim Soulo, Ahrefs' CMO, in an article updated in October 2024: only the first link from each domain counts, nofollow links don't raise it, and large numbers of low-quality links can push it up rather than down. That last rule is enough to see why a high DR, on its own, doesn't tell you whether a link from that site is worth having.

Moz's DA without Moz Pro: Keywords Everywhere

If the person you're dealing with wants Moz's DA specifically, for example because you sell or buy space on publications and blogs, you can keep reading it without subscribing to Moz. The Keywords Everywhere extension shows Moz's Domain Authority, Spam Score and referring domains on its paid plans (link metrics page). In the UK it gets 880 searches a month, more than Moz Pro and the MozBar put together.

Majestic's Trust Flow and Semrush's Authority Score

Majestic, a Birmingham company, calculates Trust Flow and Citation Flow, two metrics built to separate authoritative links from merely numerous ones. The Lite plan costs $49.99 a month, about £37.80, before VAT (Majestic price list), and in the UK "majestic seo" gets 390 searches a month. Semrush has its own Authority Score, which you can also see on the free plan with 10 reports a day (Semrush price list). To replace the bar in your browser, we've tried the free extensions that show on-page data and headers one by one in our roundups of Chrome extensions for marketing and Firefox extensions for SEO.

Moz Pro alternatives: the full suites

Here the comparison comes down to two numbers that roundups almost always ignore: how many UK keywords are in the database and what each tracked keyword costs. The table brings together the official price lists checked on 10 October 2026.

Tool and entry planMonthly priceTracked keywordsCost per keyword per monthDeclared UK database
Moz Pro Standard$99300$0.33not published
Ahrefs Lite$129750$0.171.4 billion
Semrush SEO$139500$0.28no current figure found
SE Ranking Core$1292,000$0.065769 million
Sources: G2 for Moz, Ahrefs and Ahrefs Big Data, Semrush, SE Ranking and SE Ranking, our data. All prices in US dollars, before VAT. Cost per keyword: Visilay calculation, monthly price divided by included tracked keywords.

On the first rung Moz tracks a keyword for 33 cents a month, five times SE Ranking and twice Ahrefs. If the reason you use Moz is rank tracking, that's the figure that settles it.

Ahrefs: the largest declared UK database

Ahrefs declares 1.4 billion keywords for the UK, the third country in its database after the US and Brazil, out of 29 billion keywords across 217 locations, and a backlink index updated every 15-30 minutes (Ahrefs Big Data, checked on 10 October 2026). Lite costs $129 a month, about £97.54, with one user; each extra user is $40 (Ahrefs price list). It's the right alternative if what you mainly used in Moz was Link Explorer. The full sums, credits included, are in our guide to Ahrefs pricing.

SE Ranking: the most similar to Moz, and cheaper per keyword

SE Ranking costs $129 a month or $103.20 billed annually (about £78.03), and its Core plan includes 10 projects, 2,000 keywords tracked daily and 100 AI prompts a day; the free trial lasts 14 days (SE Ranking price list). Its UK database is 769 million keywords in the country table on its data page (the FAQ on the same page says 755 million), a little over half of Ahrefs'. On the Gartner Peer Insights page for Moz Pro alternatives, SE Ranking scores 4.7 out of 5 from 73 reviews, Moz Pro 3.6 from 21.

Semrush: the one people in the UK search for most

Semrush starts at $139 a month on the SEO plan, $117.33 billed annually (about £88.71), for 5 sites and 500 keywords (Semrush price list). We couldn't find a current figure from Semrush for the size of its UK database. In the UK its name gets 27,100 searches a month, almost ten times Moz's 2,900, as we showed in our piece on Semrush alternatives. The AI Overview on Google UK for "moz alternatives" calls it the best overall feature-rich alternative.

Mangools: the lowest budget

Mangools, which includes KWFinder, starts at $37.70 a month (about £28.50) and claims savings of up to 70% on its comparison page with Moz (Mangools vs Moz). The comparison is written by Mangools, so read it as sales material. It works for a blog or a small site. Before choosing it, check its estimates on a few UK keywords with 10 or 20 searches a month, the kind typical of B2B niches: the comparison between databases on low volumes is in our roundup of keyword research tools.

Moz Local alternatives: what works in the UK

Here the UK is in a better position than most European markets. BrightLocal, the platform cited most often, says on its pricing page that it works in the USA, the UK, Canada and Australia, and it's also the most searched name in the category here. For Moz Local we didn't find a page we could check on coverage by country, so before paying it's worth asking the vendor which UK directories it manages.

Searches: Google Ads via DataForSEO, United Kingdom, average for September 2025 to August 2026. Visilay data pull, 10 October 2026. BrightLocal prices in US dollars, before VAT.

BrightLocal gets 26 times the searches of Moz Local. Even so, for a business with a single location none of these platforms is essential: the Google Business Profile listing is managed for nothing and counts for more than any directory, as we explain in our guide to Google Business Profile. Paid platforms start to make sense once you have several locations. We looked at which directories really carry weight in our article on local citations, and the full picture is in our guide to local SEO.

The part you can replace at no cost

A slice of what you pay Moz Pro for has replacements that cost nothing. Your site's clicks, impressions and average positions come from Google Search Console, and that's measured data, not an estimate. The technical audit can be done with Screaming Frog, free up to 500 URLs and £199 a year with no limit (Screaming Frog price list, checked on 10 October 2026): for an SEO audit of a site with a few hundred pages, you don't need anything else. Ahrefs' DR can be checked at no cost, and Ahrefs also offers limited free access to Site Explorer and Site Audit for site owners. What no free tool gives you is your competitors' keywords and links.

Which to choose: the replacement table

The quickest method is to look at which Moz reports you've actually opened in the last two months, and start from there.

The figure to decide on is the quality of data on your keywords, not the price list. Before you cancel, try the alternative for two weeks on the same 20 keywords you track today and compare rankings and volumes. In the Macropix case, an Italian LED screen manufacturer, the share of voice we measure (25.55% on the ledwall cluster, ahead of Amazon at 18.08%) depends on the keyword set chosen even before the tool: change the set and the number changes. We explain how to build it in our guide to keyword rankings.

If you'd rather leave the choice of tools and the reading of the data to someone else, our SEO service includes access to the suites we use. For the full overview of tools there's our ranking of the best SEO tools.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Moz?

It depends on the product you use. For the full suite, SE Ranking Core costs $129 a month with 2,000 tracked keywords, and Ahrefs Lite $129 with the largest declared UK database (1.4 billion keywords). For Domain Authority alone, Ahrefs' Website Authority Checker is enough and costs nothing. For backlinks only, Majestic Lite starts at $49.99 a month.

Is there a free alternative to Moz?

Yes, for some features. Ahrefs' Website Authority Checker gives you Domain Rating for free, Google Search Console gives you your site's real clicks and positions, Screaming Frog crawls up to 500 URLs without paying and Semrush has a free plan with 10 reports a day. No free tool gives you a complete view of competitors' keywords and backlinks.

How can I see Domain Authority without subscribing to Moz?

With an extension that reads Moz's data. Keywords Everywhere shows Moz's Domain Authority, Spam Score and referring domains on its paid plans. Alternatively you can use an equivalent metric from another tool, such as Ahrefs' Domain Rating, bearing in mind that the two scores don't match.

How much does Moz Pro cost in pounds?

Moz Pro costs $49 a month for Starter (about £37), $99 for Standard (about £75), $179 for Medium and $299 for Large, before VAT. Billed annually, Standard drops to $79 a month. Prices from G2's April 2026 pricing page, converted at the Bank of England rate for 8 October 2026.

Which Moz Local alternative works in the UK?

BrightLocal says it works in the USA, the UK, Canada and Australia, starts at $41 a month for one location and is the most searched local listings platform in the UK (3,600 searches a month). Yext and Uberall, with prices on request, suit businesses with many locations. For a single location, managing your Google Business Profile well is enough, and it costs nothing.

Something that rarely gets said

The search volumes show something the roundups don't: in the UK, Moz's Domain Authority works more like a currency than a metric. It's the number people ask for when they buy or sell a link, and if you leave Moz Pro you may find yourself, at your first quote for a sponsored article, without the reference the other side used to set the price. You can change suite without losing the market's language: keep a cheap way to read DA and treat it for what it is, a list price. How much a link will move you up is decided by the page that hosts it, its traffic and its topic, not by a score from 0 to 100.
