Leisure SEO for parks, escape rooms and bowling: two calendars and Saturday

Author: Matteo Pellegrini

"Water parks near me" was searched 14,800 times in December 2025 and 201,000 times in August 2026. "Escape room" moves the other way: 135,000 searches in October 2025 and January 2026, 74,000 in June and July 2026. "Laser tag" hits 49,500 in January and falls to 22,200 in summer (DataForSEO data, Google Ads, United Kingdom, October 2026).

In leisure the calendar is in charge: outdoor attractions live off the summer, indoor venues follow the school holidays, and for all of them the choice is made between Friday and Saturday. Whoever has their Google listing, prices and booking ready before those moments takes the bookings.

Below are the two calendars with figures for fourteen searches, the day of the week when people decide, what the first page of "escape room london" looks like and what Alton Towers and Thorpe Park can teach a smaller park.

Two opposite calendars

Outdoor attractions have a steep summer peak. "Water parks near me" goes from 14,800 searches in November and December to 201,000 in May, July and August. "Adventure park" goes from 2,900 in winter to 12,100 in August. The two most searched names in the sector follow the summer too, with a second peak in October: Alton Towers reaches 1,000,000 searches in July and August, Thorpe Park 823,000 in July, August and October 2025, when its Fright Nights Halloween event runs.

Indoor venues work from autumn to the end of winter, in step with the school holidays. "Escape room london" reaches 40,500 in October and drops to 22,200 from April to July. "Bowling london" hits 18,100 in October and January and falls to 8,100 in summer. "Laser tag" doubles in January, and "trampoline park" peaks at 110,000 in February, the month of the half-term break. One difference from what you might expect: "bowling near me" is also at 135,000 in August, so in the UK the summer holidays fill bowling alleys near home as well.

In practice, every business has a window for preparing pages, photos and offers, and it falls before the peak. For a water park it's March: between March and May "water park" goes from 74,000 to 165,000 searches. For an escape room it's September, when "escape room" is already at 110,000 and about to rise to 135,000. A page for winter birthday parties published in September is indexed by October: "escape room birthday party" gets 720 searches in September and January, against 170 in July. You can check the calendar for your own category on Google Trends in five minutes.

The choice is made on Friday and Saturday

Monthly data hide the week. Google Trends, over the three weeks from 14 September to 4 October 2026 in the UK, shows an average index of 29 on Saturdays for "escape room" against 20 on Tuesdays, and 94 on Saturdays for "bowling" against 56 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Searches start to climb on Friday, and on Sunday they're already lower than on Saturday.

Someone searching on a Saturday wants to play today or tomorrow. They check three things: whether the place is open now, whether there's space, and what it costs. The Google listing answers the first with opening hours, and in the London results Escape London's listing showed "Open · Closes 10:30 pm". The website answers the other two, if it has online booking with available slots and the prices written out.

The same reasoning applies to advertising: the budget goes into Thursday evening to Saturday, not spread across the week. Social posts and Google listing updates go out on Thursday, when people start planning the weekend.

In London, the escape rooms in the local pack have between 493 and 4,600 reviews

We read the first page of "escape room london" on 10 October 2026 with the location set to London. In the local block, below a sponsored listing, there are clueQuest (4.9 with 2,800 reviews), Escape Hunt Oxford Street (4.9 with 4,600) and Escape London in Islington (5.0 with 493), which also pays for the sponsored spot above. Higher up, a "Find results on" row with five lists: DesignMyNight, Viator, Groupon, Tripadvisor and visitlondon.com.

The organic results are a different story from the map. Of the ten, only three belong to venues: Escape Hunt with a page for kids and families, Kingston Escape Rooms and Enigma Quests. The other seven are guides and reviews: Escape the Review, DesignMyNight's "15 Best Escape Rooms In London", The Logic Escapes Me (a page from 2021), Morty, The Nudge, Exit Games UK and Viator. Five ads sit around them. In London an escape room gets clicks from the map and from the lists, much more than from its own website.

That's a high bar: in the Leeds local pack for garages the three listings have 671, 598 and 94 reviews, as we showed in the guide to SEO for the automotive sector. A business where every game is a group of four to six people, who walk out happy and with their phones in hand, collects reviews faster than a shop. The moment to ask is the group photo at the end of the game. How to ask is explained in the guide to Google reviews.

The related searches show which pages the site needs: "escape room london prices", "for families", "for 2", "for 12 year olds", "kids escape room london". The questions Google shows are even more specific: "How much does an escape room in London cost?" and "How long do escape rooms last?". Kingston Escape Rooms is on page one with the price in the snippet ("Prices £60 per game Two Players"). One page per room with length, number of players, minimum age and price per person answers all of them. The rest of the local work is in the guide to local SEO.

A park is a brand, and a written price ends up in Google's answer

Alton Towers has 60,052 Google reviews rated 4.4. Yet on "alton towers tickets", 60,500 searches a month, none of the ten organic results we found on 10 October 2026 belongs to the park: they're resellers and deal pages such as Lovetovisit, GetYourGuide, Radio Times, Booking.com, Ticketmaster and MadeForMums. The official site only shows up in the knowledge panel. Even the opening hours in the snippet ("from 10:00 to 16:00") come from Booking.com.

Thorpe Park shows the other side. On "thorpe park tickets", also 60,500 searches a month, Google's AI-generated answer sits above everything and cites thorpepark.com seven times, with the prices: a one-day ticket from £32 online against £68 on the day, £0 for children under 1.2 metres. Those numbers are written out in plain text on the park's price table page, which is why Google can quote them. The organic results below are still mostly resellers (AttractionTickets.com, Virgin Experience Days, eBay, Golden Tours), with the park's own help centre only ninth, but the answer people read first comes from the park.

For a regional water park or adventure park the same rule applies on a smaller scale. Prices, the difference between online and on the gate, concessions, minimum heights, today's opening hours and closing days belong in the text of the page, not in an image or a PDF. That's the information that ends up in Google's AI-generated answers and that separates the official site from the resellers. If you work with tourists, the principles are in the guide to SEO for tourism.

Frequently asked questions

When should a leisure business prepare its season on Google?

A month or two before searches start to climb. For water parks it's March, because "water park" goes from 74,000 searches in March to 110,000 in April and 165,000 in May. For escape rooms and laser tag it's September, ahead of the peaks in October and January.

How many reviews does an escape room need to get into the local pack?

In London, in October 2026, the three escape rooms in the local pack had between 493 and 4,600 reviews, rated between 4.9 and 5.0. The simplest way to close the gap is to ask for a review at the end of every game, while the group is still together.

Is Google Ads worth it for a leisure business?

Yes, if the budget follows the calendar and the weekend. A click on "escape room london" costs £2.16, on "bowling london" £1.07 and on "water parks near me" £0.60. It pays to concentrate spend from Thursday evening to Saturday and in the peak months.

Do you need to be on Tripadvisor and the listing sites?

On "escape room london" seven of the ten organic results are guides and lists, and Google adds a row of links to DesignMyNight, Viator, Groupon, Tripadvisor and visitlondon.com. Being in those lists brings visibility even to venues that aren't in the local pack, and reviews there are collected the same way as on Google.

What should a theme park or water park put on its website?

Prices online and on the gate, concessions, minimum heights, today's opening hours and closing days, all in text. On "thorpe park tickets" Google's AI-generated answer quotes the prices from the official site, £32 online and £68 on the day, because they're written on the page.

Where to start

Open Google Trends, choose "past 90 days" and your region, and search for the word for your business: "escape room", "bowling", "water park". Look at which day of the week the peaks fall on and which month the climb started last year. Then check that your Google listing has the opening hours for that day and that the website has prices and online booking for that weekend. If you'd like a plan for next season, across SEO and Google Ads, get in touch.
